A long-standing travel agency in Largs has merged with Ayrshire-based Thorne Travel.

Kilwinning-based Thorne Travel is expanding after buying the 15-year-old Largs Travel Company.

Owner David Anton told the News he had decided to “retire” from running the business after recent health issues.

He and current Largs Travel Company staff Audrey Quinn and Julie Boyd will join the new team and continue to look after their customers.

The Largs branch of Thorne Travel will open in new premises in the city.

David, 64, said: ‘We provide a very personalized service to all of our customers, and I just knew that if I could get Shona Thorne interested in taking over the reins, it would mean the same family business feel would remain intact.’

David, who founded his company in 2007, says the new venture will be “a great addition to the city”.

Thorne Travel was named the UK & Ireland’s Best Travel Agency in 2018 by the TTG Top 50 Travel Agencies and Scotland’s Best Agency in 2018 and 2020.

David added that Thorne’s reputation within the travel industry and the local community would be a “big plus” for residents of Largs.

Shona Thorne, owner of Thorne Travel, added: “We understand that our customers have been very loyal and supportive of us and we want to make sure we continue to deliver to them. We will also have some exciting job opportunities ahead.”
