ScotRail has confirmed the expansion of its Travel Safe team following the rail operator’s ongoing recruitment drive.
ScotRail is actively recruiting 24 Travel Safe Officers, three Travel Safe Supervisors and a Protection Officer.
When completed, this recruitment will make the current temporary squad of nine permanent, adding 19 new positions to make it a squad of 28.
After the selection process, ScotRail hopes to begin the phased introduction of new team members in the fall.
ScotRail’s Travel Safe team was established in October 2021 and has since worked closely with the UK Transport Police to help customers and colleagues promote a safe rail environment, both on trains and at stations.
The team was designed to be a responsive resource with the ability to quickly focus on emerging trouble spots.
They actively engage and educate individuals and groups about the impact of unsafe behavior on or around the track.
Since its introduction, ScotRail’s Travel Safe team has targeted a number of stations and routes, and the rail operator has seen a drop in reported events during and after anti-social behavior drills.
ScotRail’s head of risk and safety assurance, Ben Doran, said: “ScotRail is committed to ensuring that Scotland’s railway is safe for our customers and our own employees, and this campaign to recruitment bears witness to this.
“Our Travel Safe team have done a great job promoting a safe rail environment, and I really look forward to building on their great work.
“We will continue our close working relationship with the British Transport Police, which includes involvement in multi-agency initiatives, to engage and educate people about unsafe behavior on the rail network.”
