MakeMyTrip partners with Amazon Pay to offer travel services


NEW DELHI: Amazon Pay and MakeMyTrip India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed MakeMyTrip Ltd, announced a strategic partnership offering travel services on for the long term. Reservation options will be available on Amazon’s mobile app and website.

The partnership is likely to help Amazon Pay provide its customers with access to travel deals from MakeMyTrip.

Rajesh Magow, Co-Founder and CEO of MakeMyTrip Group, said: “There is an accelerated digital transition due to the pandemic and through this partnership we look forward to making travel bookings extremely convenient for new adopters, thus increasing the penetration of travel bookings.”

Mahendra Nerurkar, CEO and VP of Amazon Pay India, added, “Our partnership will benefit our customers, allowing them to choose from offers and services across the country, followed by Amazon’s ease of use. Pay, facilitating a smooth journey.”

MakeMyTrip will be able to expand its distribution through Amazon Pay’s large customer base, especially in smaller cities and towns, and accelerate online booking of travel services across the country. Amazon Pay aims to make the booking and travel experience easier for customers, extending the convenience of online transactions from anywhere to anyone instantly.

Amazon Pay, which has a co-branded credit card with ICICI Bank, will also allow customers to earn cashback rewards on bookings and with Amazon Pay Later, customers can book tickets and pay the following month interest-free.

Customers can also use different payment methods on Amazon Pay, including Amazon Pay Balance and Amazon Pay UPI to make their payments frictionless. Booking bus services through Redbus is already live on and more travel services powered by MakeMyTrip will go live in the coming months.

India’s Online Travel Services Market is Expected to Hit $56 Billion by 2024 with MakeMyTrip, Airbnb Inc., Cleartrip Pvt. Ltd., and Yatra Online Inc, being the major players in the segment, said Technavio, a technology research company.
