How to Become a Disney Travel Agent

Between its global resorts, its Adventures by Disney touring wing, and its growing cruise line, Disney fans have a lot to discover when it comes to choosing their vacations, and a lot for Disney travel agents. market and sell to their customers. It’s also one of the most common niches among advisors looking for something they can specialize in.

Jodi Bainter, Director of Travel Agency Sales at The Walt Disney Company, spoke with TMR during a media preview of Disney Cruise Line’s new ship, Disney Wish, earlier this month about what Disney is up to. to support its agent partners.

“Travel advisors play a critical role for us and will continue to do so in the future,” Bainter said. “In fact, their care and planning for our clients long before the pandemic, through it, and now into the future is incredibly valuable to us.”

“We will never underestimate the value of the travel industry,” she added. “They are the hardest working team in the industry and they produce incredible results for our Disney destinations. We continue to seek long-term partnerships with them.

Disney Travel Agent Portal
According to Bainter, the most successful Disney Travel Consultants not only know the product, but take full advantage of the resources Disney provides to its travel partners.

“The most important thing, I believe, is giving advisors all the tools and training they need to perform at their best and grow their business,” she said.

It starts at, the premier portal for those selling all kinds of Disney vacations, from Walt Disney World Resort to Disneyland Resort, Disney Cruise Line, Aulani, and more. This includes guides on how to book components of every vacation, from theme park tickets to cruises.

It’s also the perfect place to connect with Disney’s business development managers, whom Bainter called “one of the most valuable resources.”

Disney Knowledge College
Also inside this travel advisor portal is Disney’s College of Knowledge, a fully interactive five-part course that prepares new and returning advisors for what Disney has to offer its customers.

Courses cover Aulani Resort, Adventures by Disney, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Each should take around an hour to complete, with the Walt Disney World Resort course being the longest at 75 minutes total.

Each course includes segmented lessons that familiarize advisors with all the latest product offerings. The one from Disney Cruise Line, for example, includes an overview of its ships, staterooms, activities, restaurants, Castaway Cay and itineraries.

Each course also includes short quizzes to test your knowledge as you progress.

The idea is to fully prepare Advisors with the product knowledge they need before talking to their customers about a potential Disney reservation.

“The better we can prepare them, that helps their credibility with their guests, and we always want to set them up for success,” Bainter added.

Disney Marketing Materials
The travel agent portal is also where the marketing tools are that advisors can use with their clients. There, agents can create mini-sites with their own call-to-action and travel agency logos, send e-brochures to customers, and grab marketing materials for their own emails.

According to Bainter, one channel, in particular, is increasingly becoming the go-to source for top Disney travel agents. According to Bainter, she and her team have seen social media “change the landscape of how travel agents promote their services.”

“We’ve been looking into this with Disney professionals on our social platforms,” she said, adding that Disney is actively putting content on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube that advisors can use to engage with their clients.

“I really think that’s where the change is happening. They reach a wider audience and they do a really good job of talking about all of the Disney destinations. »

FAM and reductions
Advisors who achieve full qualification through Disney’s College of Knowledge and who also hold a valid IATA, CLIA, or ACTA card, then have the option of using special travel agent rates for all Disney product offerings. .

There are blackout dates for some of the busiest times and other terms and conditions, but ultimately completing the training courses will earn Advisors a discount on their Disney vacation so they can find out what they sell first. hand.

For Disney Cruise Line, which is in the midst of one of the biggest expansions in its history, Bainter added that the line will resume ship tours so advisers can see the product firsthand.

“We’ll start with the Wish,” Bainter told TMR. “It’s a big deal – we know it’s extremely important that agents are prepared to be able to talk about the product.”
